Meetings now open to the public

Panmure, 06 March

In a new initiative, residents of the Mount Wellington Licensing Trust area can now attend Trust meetings.

Troy Elliot, President Mount Wellington Licensing Trust, says he is pleased to warmly welcome the public to attend.

“At our most recent AGM we received feedback that our community would like the opportunity to attend our meetings. We’ve listened to that feedback and in the future, our Mount Wellington Licensing Trust meetings will be open to the public.”

Mount Wellington Licensing Trust will meet four times during this year, and will hold two AGMs in 2023 as well, due to delays from the pandemic affecting Audit New Zealand’s ability to conduct timely audits. Details of meeting dates and times will be published on the Trust’s website.

The first meeting for 2023 is 7:00am Wednesday 22 March, at Waipuna Hotel and Conference Centre, 58 Waipuna Road, Mount Wellington.

Mr Elliot says that the meeting agenda for Mount Wellington Licensing Trust will be published on the Trust’s website at least two business days prior to the meeting.

“We look forward to engaging with interested members of the community,” he says.

About Licensing Trusts

Licensing trusts were established in the 1960s and 1970s as a community initiative to control the sale of alcohol and are community owned. They have privileges under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 to sell alcohol responsibly in their trust areas through hotels, taverns, and off-licences. Licensing Trusts may spend or distribute the net profits through grants, rebates to clubs, sponsorships and other community activities.

About Mount Wellington Licensing Trust

The Mount Wellington Licensing Trust owns and manages the Waipuna Hotel and Conference Centre, The Corner Bar and the Waipuna Conference Suites Highbrook through its operating arm Mount Wellington Trust Hotels Ltd. It also provides majority Board representation for the Mount Wellington Charitable Trust, the “giving’’ arm of the Mount Wellington Licensing Trust group. Through good governance the group has the following purpose statement:

“The group exists to generate meaningful profits for the betterment of its local community.” It accomplishes this specifically through its purpose statement: “The Board and management of the group recognise our privileged position and truly value:

  • contributing to the community

  • the stewardship of excellent community owned assets

  • our employees, without whom none of this would be possible

  • our guests, whose comfort and loyalty we wish to assure and retain.”
