Notice of Public Meeting
Pursuant to section 354 of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, the Mt Wellington Licensing Trust (MWLT) invites the community to a meeting at 6pm on 11 September at the Panmure Town Hall to discuss a resolution passed on Friday 11 July 2025.
The resolution was: "MWLT resolves that, pursuant to the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act, MWLT immediately initiate the process to convert to a Community Trust."
The primary purpose of the meeting is for the new GM of MWLT, Rob Wakelin, to talk through the conversion process, including the steps taken to date since the completion of sales in early 2025 of the Trusts property assets to new owners, and the benefits that will arise for the community from a conversion to a Community Trust now that the Trust no longer operates any assets requiring it to be a Licensing Trust.
The meeting will discuss;
The now completed investment of the sale proceeds into a stable, diversified portfolio of assets, governed by a Statement of Investment Policy Outcomes (SIPO), and administered by independently owned Kiwi investment consultants Mapua Wealth
The development of a Statement of Grants Policy Objectives (SGPO) which will guide how community grants are made by the MWLT Trustees elected by the community at the local body elections. The first application period for community grants is expected to open in December 2025.
The completion of the conversion into a Community Trust which will enable MWLT to operate more cost effectively and flexibly under a Trust Deed rather than under the more regulated Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act that applies to Licensing Trusts
The ability of the Community Trust and new investment portfolio, as administered by the elected Trustees of MWLT and board of Mt Wellington Charitable Trust (MWCT), to generate more income and grant significantly higher and more consistent amounts of money to the community than was achieved under the Licensing Trust model.
Please note this meeting on 11 September is not intended to cover the strategic, operational or financial performance matters for MWLT, these will instead be discussed at the MWLT AGM, which will take place at 6pm on Wednesday 1 October 2025 at the Panmure Town Hall. It is noted the MWLT AGM was intended to have been held much earlier but has been unfortunately delayed as a consequence of a backlog with the government-appointed auditors, delaying the completion of audited financial statements.
